Abstract:
This study examines the sociology of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning in lower-grade Madrasah Ibtidaiyah focusing on religious imagination, teacher storytelling, and children’s emotional responses. The study is motivated by the importance of understanding that religious learning for early-grade students is not merely cognitive but also involves emotional, symbolic, and imaginative dimensions. The purpose of this study is to analyze how religious stories delivered by teachers shape students’ understanding and imagination regarding abstract religious concepts such as angels, heaven, hell, rewards, sins, and moral values. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach using perspectives of sociology of religion, phenomenology, and lived religion. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation conducted at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Muhammadiyah Kedungjempang class 1B Annas Bin Malik. The findings reveal that religious stories, songs, simple language, and visual learning media significantly influence students’ religious imagination and emotional engagement. Students showed various responses including enthusiasm, curiosity, admiration, fear, and spontaneous questions related to religious concepts explained by the teacher. The study also indicates that storytelling-based PAI learning contributes to the formation of students’ religious behavior such as praying, discipline, politeness, and respect toward parents and teachers. The implication of this study highlights the importance of child-friendly religious learning approaches that balance moral teaching, affection, and emotional understanding. The originality of this research lies in its focus on children’s religious imagination and emotional experiences within lower-grade PAI learning in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah.
